The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) is a statutory authority of the Australian Commonwealth Government. CSIRO is one of the world’s largest and most diverse scientific global research organisations. The work of CSIRO touches every aspect of Australian life from the molecules that build life to the molecules in space.

Working from sites across the nation and around the globe, our 6500 staff are focussed on providing new ways to improve the quality of life for all Australians, as well as the economic and social performance of a number of industry sectors through research and development. The sectors are agribusiness, energy and transport, environment and natural resources, information, communications and services, manufacturing, mineral resources and health.

Within CSIRO, the Division of Telecommunications and Industrial Physics conducts and supports space research and related activities for Australia. As part of this CSIRO Division, the NASA Operations group manages the activities of CDSCC under a treaty level Agreement between the Governments of the USA and Australia.

A Cooperating Agency Arrangement sets out the broad terms, roles and responsibilities of both NASA and CSIRO under the government-to-Government Agreement. CSIRO enters into contracts with Australian private industry to provide the operations and engineering staff and services that enable CDSCC to fulfil its deep space mission service obligations.

CSIRO is proud to support an international relationship that has existed for nearly fifty years as Australia continues to contribute to the exciting exploration of our solar system and beyond.
