Space holds a place in the public imagination like few other topics. We often ask ourselves ‘what’s out there?’ and ‘what is it like on other worlds?’

The goal of the Canberra Space Centre (CSC) is to strive to make accessible to the public the largest collection in Australia of materials on space exploration, and to achieve public awareness of the benefits of the CDSCC to the local and Australian economy.

Opened in the early 1980s the CSC immediately began drawing interest from the public, instilling an appreciation and support for space exploration. Over the past 20 years, the Centre has been expanded from its original two rooms, to today incorporating a theatre, large exhibition space, a full café and giftshop, outside playground, BBQ and picnic areas.

Exhibits include an actual piece of the Moon over 3.8 billion years old, full- and scale-models of spacecraft, plus spacesuits, and flown hardware and memorabilia.

While the real work of exploring the Universe is going on around them, visiting schools and the public can see for themselves that Australia is playing a vital role in this unique endeavour.
